Frequently Asked Questions
The first step to starting a fitness journey is always the hardest.
Where do I start? How often do I need to exercise? What else needs to change in my daily life? Common questions that plague beginners that can certainly increase anxieties.
At 1201 CrossFit, we value educating and encouraging our clients of all levels so they feel in control of their health journey.
Here are some frequently asked questions about CrossFit and our programs.
What is an OnRamp and why do I need it?
All new athletes start with a two-week OnRamp series that will prepare you for our daily WODs (workout of the day). This allows you to get familiar with the movements, equipment and terminology as well as give your coach a chance to get to know your goals, abilities and limitations.
What types of membership options do you offer?
After the OnRamp, you will automatically be enrolled in a 12-week membership.
Why 12-weeks? Because we want you to experience all the great benefits CrossFit training has to offer, including:
Improved cardiovascular health
Increased strength
Enhanced balance
Mobility
Stamina
And even a change in your physical appearance
And those things take TIME!
If you decide that you are in it for the long-term there are more options, talk to a 1201 Team member about what options are best for you.
How many times a week should you do CrossFit?
That depends on you and your goals but everyone should be aiming from a minimum of 4x per week. This is also something we address on an individual basis in the OnRamp.
What does a typical CrossFit workout look like?
A workout at 1201 CrossFit has several parts - we always have a warm-up and mobility sessions to prep the body for the hour. We do some skill practice and/or strength cycle, then into the MetCon, which stands for metabolic conditioning. This is sometimes referred to as the WOD (workout of the day) or “the workout.” Although we work for the entire 60 minutes of class, the MetCon, or “workout,” is when we turn up the intensity and the music, then it’s 3, 2, 1…GO!
What if I can’t do an exercise listed in the WOD?
That is OKAY! In a class of 10 people, there may be 10 versions of the same workout happening. Every movement can be modified or scaled to meet your abilities, goals and limitations.
Is CrossFit safe?
Yes. Classes are 100% coach-led, our coaches are here to ensure that everyone is moving safely. Our goal is to make sure that you can return the next day. No exercise program is effective if you cannot be consistent due to injuries.
Do you do private sessions?
Group exercise is fun, the accountability of showing up and working alongside friends can’t be beat and we prefer it that way.
OnRamps are scheduled as private session and at your convenience.
